We are looking for volunteers to to take our Care Van into the city centre and distribute food to people who are experiencing homelessness.
Role
General responsibilities
- Driving the Van to the city to distribute food to people who are experiencing homelessness.
- Stocking the van with cups, lids, flasks and food needed before leaving the Centre.
- Serving food and drinks.
- Distributing any donations of clothing.
- Speaking to clients and offer advice where appropriate.
- Reporting any incidents, feedback or training needs in the report folders.
- Cleaning the van on return to the Bethany Christian Centre.
Important pre-requisites for the role
- To be able to listen and communicate clearly.
- To be able to work as part of a team.
- To remain patient and calm when under pressure.
- A desire to enrich the lives of vulnerable members of society.
- Be 18 years old or over.
- An understanding of appropriate boundaries and a willingness to work within these.
- Though the role does not require the volunteer to be a Christian, they must be aware and respectful of the Christian ethos upon which Bethany Christian Trust is founded.
Details
Location: Bethany Christian Centre – back entrance on Jane Street.
Pattern of hours: Volunteers meet at 11.50am and return around 2.30pm.
The Lunch Care Van goes out on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
