Want to support people in Leith to start new groups and run them? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
Role
An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Inspiring Leith Community Coordinator in Edinburgh.
Inspiring Leith is an innovative and distinctive department that invests in and harnesses the capacity of local people and communities in Leith. Since its inception in 2012, as part of Inspiring Scotland’s Link Up programme, the focus has been on the existing skills, knowledge and interests of individuals in the local community. Inspiring Leith aims to generate an environment where people can come together to create and participate in new activities. Through such experiences, new social connections are made, existing ones strengthened, isolation reduced, self-esteem developed, confidence built, and increased agency realised.
If you’re a highly motivated community development professional, you could build on Inspiring Leith’s existing successes and reputation while also continuing to develop the scope and shape of the project. Groups supported to date have included activities such as an open mic night, a pipe band, upcycling, gardening, conversation, crafts, contemplative prayer and asserting human rights.
Ideally, you will have experience in community engagement, developing/supporting and facilitating community-led projects with an assets-based approach; empowering people/groups to develop ideas, and nurturing them. This role will focus on working with a wide range of individuals, from children to older people, from a variety of social backgrounds and providing individual support when required.
Candidates will require experience in facilitating, planning and working with people in a community setting. A qualification or desire to work towards one in Community Development, Social Work, Social Care, or a related discipline is essential.
