Our Big Bethany Sleep Out is one of the easiest ways to fundraise for Bethany.

If you want to participate in a fun event that challenges you to get out of your comfort zonethen the Sleep Out is for you! For one night only every March, we ask you to sleep outside in order to help us raise awareness of the realities of homelessness in Scotland.

How does it work?
Gather peers from your school or your youth group, select a Sleep Out location (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Glenrothes, Dumfries, or ‘At Home’ in a secure green space e.g. garden), sign up to our Enthuse page and create a team page, and then ask as many of your friends and family members to sponsor you using our Sponsorship Forms.
What should I bring?
A sleeping bag, a head torch, a hot water bottle, blankets, extra layers.
If you sign up to participate at one of our Sleep Out locations, you will be provided with cardboard to sleep onsurvival bags, hand warmers, access to hot water, drinks and snacks, and fun activities to keep you occupied throughout the night
If you sign up to participate ‘At Home’ in a secure green space, you will be provided with survival bags, hand warmers, and fun activities to keep you occupied throughout the night.

Please note that if you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Here’s a story to inspire you…

Scout Groups Sleep Out for Bethany!

In 2025, several Scout groups across Edinburgh decided to participate in the Sleep Out at the Edinburgh City Chambers.

One of the groups, the Wildfire Explorer Scouts (including 25 young people and 5 Scout leaders), arrived at the Sleep Out location with such enthusiasm and excitement, ready for a night in the cold.

They came extremely prepared (we wouldn’t expect anything else from a Scout group, though!) with hot water flasks, food to share with each other, extra layers of clothing, multiple card games, extra cardboard, and something we’d not seen before – waterproof tarp!

It rained a fair bit during the night, but they remained dry. They had brought extra tarp so that others who weren’t sleeping under any sort of shelter could use it.

To top it all off, together they raised an incredible £1,458.75!
