Our April Volunteer of the Month is Adam Hodgson!
Adam has been volunteering with Bridge to Freedom for a year.
“I chose to volunteer with Bethany after the Volunteers Fair in September 2023. I was really interested by the Bridge to Freedom (BtF) programme. As a criminology graduate, I have been looking for work/opportunities around the area of justice and rehabilitation.“

Why do you love volunteering at Bethany?
“Ever since I started at Bridge to Freedom, I have felt welcomed by the staff (Joe and Liz) and the various participants from the Gorebridge group. Over my time with BtF I have had the enormous privilege of watching/hearing and supporting people as they go through life-altering and powerful changes, seeking Christ on their road through recovery. Moreover, it has been incredible to see the community amongst the participants grow as they get alongside one another. I have become one of the group, still distinctly a volunteer and supporter, but nonetheless a brother to many.”
Are there any particular highlights?
“The recent weekend away to Aviemore was particularly beautiful: the atmosphere, weather, and camaraderie were signigicant highlights. It was also a weekend that pushed out my comfort zone as I was asked to write and deliver a devotional – something I hadn’t done for a couple of years (plus I don’t really like public speaking all that much).”
“Looking forward, I am continuing to volunteer with Bethany, having now been moved to Charlotte Chapel where I know I will continue to see Christ make immense moves in people’s lives; and people responding to Christ with the hearts that desire His peace, love, mercy and grace.”
Are there others ways you like to support our work?
“On Saturday 26th April, I (and my girlfriend) embarked on the Glasgow Kiltwalk from Clydebank to Balloch where I am fundraising for Bethany. I have just reached my target of £500 which is amazing and I thank everyone who has donated so far. I would like to ask if you can to donate a little more: it makes all the difference to one person, one family, one community at a time across Scotland. Your gift can literally change lives.”
Thank you for sharing Adam! We are so grateful to have you here!
