With regional teams based in the East of Scotland, projects are tailored to local needs and work in partnership with churches to empower people to strengthen their communities. Everyone has potential and our Community Support & Development Workers are engaging with individuals in communities to revitalise areas where the potential for homelessness is a real concern. Sometimes this involves the creation of Self Reliant Groups. In Leith our Learning Centre timetable details the activities on offer to learn new skills and access further support and signposting.

Upstream is a therapeutic befriending and counselling service delivered within schools to promote positive mental health and wellbeing to pupils from Secondary 1 through to Secondary 6. The service offers professional assistance, guidance and support in resolving personal or psychological problems.

Pupils are referred to UpStream through school Pastoral Care or the school’s Joint Support Team. Once the referral is made, the UpStream worker meets with the young person and will begin to co-produce the support that is required. Therapeutic Befriending is a safe and relaxed time for a young person to talk to someone who will listen supportively to everything they have to say. Counselling provides a safe and non-judgmental space where a counsellor will help a young person to explore and process their feelings, worries or problems. Support is delivered primarily as 1-2-1 work within a safe, confidential space provided by the school.

Inspiring Leith

Inspiring Leith has been running since 2012 harnessing the strengths, skills and resources of local people in Leith. We have provided support to set up activities where folks can get to know each other and have fun. These activities have a huge impact on strengthening community and bringing about positive change in people’s lives.

Using an asset based approach to community development people have opportunities to meet, form positive relationships, and organise themselves to deliver activities for their own benefit and that of the wider community. We are able to provide support to get things started in terms of funding and practical support.

Inspiring Leith Programme

Inspiring Leith is part of Inspiring Scotland’s Link Up programme which operates in 9 locations across Scotland.

Passing the Baton

Befriending has a huge impact on how well people move on from temporary accommodation and into their own tenancy.

Passing the Baton

Befriending has a huge impact on how well people move on from temporary accommodation and into their own tenancy.

Through our ‘Passing the Baton’ befriending service, trained volunteers stop the revolving door of homelessness by being at work in communities to help people settle in their local area and make connections to activities, organisations and key people in their community.

Our staff, volunteers and partner organisations support people collectively and individually who are at risk of homelessness, or who have been affected by homelessness in the past.
