Last year, after a relationship broke down I found myself homeless. Thankfully in the summer of 2014 I got a place at Bethany House. Alex who works at Bethany House encouraged me to start volunteering and I thought it was a great idea.
He introduced me to the admin team at the head office who were looking for a receptionist and I started soon after that initial meeting. My role entails directing enquiries by phone and e-mail as well as some administrative work for the Care Van and the Care Shelter.
This experience has been hugely rewarding. I have learned new skills and I work in a positive environment, which is very different from what I’ve been used to.
It’s great to feel like I am able to give something back to the organisation and the people who were so helpful when I was at my lowest point.
I would highly recommend volunteering with Bethany Christian Trust. It’s been great to be involved with the admin team and the organisation as a whole. The more time I spend volunteering here, the more I meet people who volunteer for different teams.
There are many volunteering roles across the organisation and I’m sure there is something for almost anyone who has time to spare and is willing to get involved and make a difference.
