“This feels like a birthday party… except you don’t have to have an invitation!”

On the 4th July in Sighthill, a group of around 30 children, parents, members of the local congregation and others from the surrounding community met outside Calders Community Flat and joined in together for a lunchtime picnic with the ‘Together@Lunch’ community project.

Paper bags were given out for children to fill with tasty, healthy lunchtime snacks including sandwiches, drinks and fruit; and playing was positively encouraged with balls and outdoor games a plenty. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a great chance for parents to find something fun to do to break up the summer holidays.

Together@Lunch is a community support initiative run alongside St Nicholas Church, Sighthill and in partnership with B Healthy Together. It runs every other Thursday from 12-1:30pm at St Nicholas Church and is a chance for children to eat a good meal, have a play and most importantly for the community to develop friendships and strengthen connections.

It  is part of Bethany’s Community Development work which supports churches in tapping into existing community assets such as B Healthy Together.

The next Together@Lunch is on the 8th of August and will involve nibbles at St Nicholas Church followed by a walk down to Broomhill where B Healthy Together are holding a street party with a BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting and more!
