Our Creative Expressions community arts project in Menzieshill, Dundee has got off to a great start with a free photography school for young people over the Easter break.
Professional photographer Ciara Menzies led the afternoon sessions with young people from Menzieshill, teaching practical photography skills and setting creative briefs for participants to capture what is special about their local community in film.
There was great feedback from the budding photographers;
“I became a more confident photographer. The themes were really helpful.” “It made me think about pictures differently. I took pictures of thing I wouldn’t have before.” “I want to be a photographer. I’m going to ask for a camera for my birthday.”
Parents were pleased with the outcome of the sessions as well;
“Just wanted to let you know that the kids are having a fab time at the group this week. I didn’t expect them to like it as much but they are having a really really good time and it’s brilliant how they’ve been able to get outdoors as well.”
They can all look forward to seeing a selection of their work appear in the Menzieshill outdoor art exhibition on the 15th and 16th of May. Pieces created by participants in our textiles and street art workshops will also appear in the exhibition which will be staged in local greenspaces for the whole community to enjoy.
