Casual Retail Assistant

We are looking for casual Retail Assistants who are passionate about charity retail and helping a good cause.


Hourly rate: £9.51
Based across Edinburgh shops and in Gullane, various hours of work available.

We have 5 shops in Edinburgh and a shop in Gullane to support the vital services we provide. All our services focus on relieving the immediate suffering and meeting the long terms needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland. We don’t just work with homeless people. We stop people becoming homeless in the first place. When you join Bethany you are supporting projects such as the Winter Care Shelter, Care Van, Family Support work, Housing Support etc

As a Casual Retail Assistant you will join a fantastic teams of staff and volunteers.

You will make decisions on the sorting, recycling, pricing and displaying of donated goods in line with pricing guidelines for the shop.

This position also requires competent use of the till, and some financial tasks. When working without a manager in the shop, you are required to follow daily and weekly work plans as set out by the Shop Manager.

Casual/Maintenance Assistants and Workers

We are looking to expand our casual pool of general labourers and qualified electricians. You will join our maintenance team working across our many sites and on a range of jobs including electrical repairs, joinery work and property maintenance.


Starting Salary: £11.15 per hour
Location: Edinburgh
Contract: Casual

Bethany Christian Trust is a national charity whose mission is to relieve the suffering and meet the long term needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland.

You will be working closely with our maintenance team on a casual basis. The purpose of this role is to support the maintenance team and assist with carrying out general repairs, electrical, joinery, plumbing and refurbishment work at both our residential and commercial properties. This role will also involve occasional travel within Scotland.

You will require an up-to-date CSC certification and experience in general labour and electrical work. Team working, willingness to learn, flexibility, and consideration towards our service users are essential to this role. A driving license is desirable.

Casual/Pool Care Worker

The relief staff provide a valuable support to permanent staff during times of sickness and holiday absences/staff shortages.


Starting Salary: £11.44 per hour
Location: Edinburgh and West Lothian
Contract: Casual

To work as part of a team to ensure the smooth daily running of the unit and to help create a safe, supportive caring and empowering environment for service users.   To provide a high standard of care, among others.  Experience and knowledge of our service user group and the issues surrounding them is essential.  SVQ 3 in Social Care or equivalent is desirable coupled with experience in a Residential/Housing support setting.

Successful applicants for this post will require an enhanced disclosure and membership of the PVG scheme.
