Retail Assistant
Starting salary: £18,545 gross per annum pro rata
0.8 FTE: 30 hours/week

Holiday entitlement: 225 hours per year pro rata

We are looking for a Retail Assistant for our Gullane shop.

We have 5 shops in Edinburgh to support the vital services we provide. All our services focus on relieving the immediate suffering and meeting the long terms needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland. We don’t just work with homeless people. We stop people becoming homeless in the first place. When you join Bethany you are supporting projects such as the Welcome Centre, Care Van, Family Support work, Housing Support, etc.

As a Retail Assistant you will join a fantastic team of staff and volunteers.

You will make decisions on the sorting, recycling, pricing and displaying of donated goods in line with pricing guidelines for the shop.

This position also requires competent use of the till, and some financial tasks. You will be opening up and closing the shop, working alternating Saturdays. When working without a manager in the shop, you are required to follow daily and weekly work plans as set out by the Shop Manager.

Starting Salary: £11.44 per hour

To work as part of a team to ensure the smooth daily running of the unit and to help create a safe, supportive caring and empowering environment for service users.   To provide a high standard of care, among others.  Experience and knowledge of our service user group and the issues surrounding them is essential.  SVQ 3 in Social Care or equivalent is desirable coupled with experience in a Residential/Housing support setting.

Successful applicants for this post will require an enhanced disclosure and membership of the PVG scheme.

You will be passionate about raising funds for homeless and vulnerable people and want to be part of an exciting team with a great deal of room to make your mark and shape our funding for the future. You will see the impact of your work on a daily basis, keeping the motivation levels high and your desire to constantly do better.

You will have a strong ability to research and write compelling applications for funding. You will raise substantial income through Trust Funds and Grants.  Experience of writing compelling arguments is essential, knowledge of Trust funds highly desirable.  A strong team player with initiative and a flair for building relationships through excellent communication skills, you will have a pro-active approach and ability to maintain good records and keep to tight deadlines.
